Description – Genuine mammoth fossil dating back to the last Ice Age are the centerpiece of this necklace. This single bead is carved from the extremely rare fossilized tooth of a wooly mammoth and displayed on a micro-petite sterling silver chain.
History – During the Pleisocene Epoch 150,000 years ago, Wooly Mammoths walked the tundra of far eastern Russia. Buried in silt for thousands of years, bones and teeth eventually became fossilized. As the permafrost begins to warm, mammoth bones are being uncovered. Our fossilized beads come from our trade partners in Europe who have been able to source a limited supply of mammoth fossils. All fossils are excavated and purchased legally, ethically and with all of the proper local permits and licenses.
The colors and patterns of rare fossilized mammoth beads range from shades of cream to caramel to chocolate. Each necklace is unique, due to the one-of-a-kind pattern and color of each bead.
Style – This necklace looks best at 16 to 20 inches in length. The mammoth fossil bead is approximately 3/8″ in diameter.
Construction Details – This amazing mammoth tooth fossil is strung on a petite sterling silver chain (so the focus is on the fossil) and finished with a sterling silver clasp. Every necklace will be different in color and pattern as each fossil bead is different. Some are cream colored, some brown, some have pink layers, etc.
Fit – Choose your size from 16″ to 24″
Care Instructions – As with any fine jewelry, you should avoid getting it wet. Use a soft dry cloth to polish. Do not use steam or ultrasonic cleaners.
